Nunez-Cortes is a member of the Heart of Georgia Altamaha Regional Commission, the Appling County Hospital Authority and the Appling County Family Connection Collaborative. She is also a member of the Lions Club International, Kiwanis International, the Appling County Board of Health and Telamon HSEAC.

Nunez-Cortes earned a bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice and a master’s degree in School Counseling from Georgia Southern University. She also earned a specialist degree in Educational Administration and Supervision from Lincoln Memorial University. Nunez-Cortes is a graduate of the Georgia Academy for Economic Development. She and her husband, Juan, have two children and live in Baxley.
